Interactive virtual reality experience exploring the beautiful Machu Picchu

The Challenge

The broad proximity from our office in the city of Sydney, Australia, to deep in the Peruvian Andes, South America meant there was little room for error to snapshot Machu Picchu. After 6 flights, 2 trains, & 2 buses we arrived deep into the Peruvian Andes, with days worth of filming left to play with.

Creating the experience was a very collaborative process and involved many firsts for everyone in the team. We wanted to be ambitious yet keep in mind that there was only so much rendering a browser could handle before users entertain the idea of throwing their device out the window in frustration.

The Process

Producing the virtual interaction required a significant amount of research to ensure the information we were offering was accurate and valuable. To record the beautiful sceneries of Machu Picchu we used high quality 360 footage, sharp videography, and rich sound effects projecting the voice of Machu Picchu, bringing the user to an end-to-end experience.

The Solution

Machu Picchu is remarkably unique and can’t be captured through photography alone; it’s multisensory. While looking ahead at one thing, turn left, right, or look behind and another astonishing view is there for you to see, so it made sense to deliver a 360-degree VR experience, and that’s exactly what we did.
